Queensland Fire and Emergency (QFES) is urging residents to ensure they have carried out fire safety checks around their homes with crews already attending more than 27 structure fires across central Queensland since the beginning of May 2020.

QFES Director Regional Operations, Central Region, Steve Smith said 19 of the 27 structures had been house or unit fires.

We’re only one month into winter and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews have already attended more than 65 residential structure fires in South Eastern Region since 1 May, 2020. 

Logan Area Commander Geoff Townsley said Logan was a major focus for the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) with approximately 23 of those incidents located in the Logan City Local Government Area (LGA). 

With bushfire season just around the corner, firefighters are urging North Queensland residents to finalise their property preparations.  

Bushfire season traditionally starts in August but Rural Fire Service (RFS) Regional Manager Tony Hazell warned North Queensland residents not to leave their preparations to the last minute.
