Fraser Island – vegetation fire as at 9am Mon 23 Dec

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is aware of a vegetation fire burning on the southern end of Fraser Island. QFES crews are assisting Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) to monitor and patrol the area. There is no threat to property at this time, however thick smoke may affect surrounding areas including Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro, townships along the Great Sandy Strait, Gympie and Noosa over the coming days. Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep their medication close by. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
